I’ve been thinking a lot about social media lately. When I first jumped on the social media bandwagon, long before I was running a photography business, it was about connection. Reaching out to friends, sharing photos and stories of day to day living. Re-establishing connections and finding common interests. My social media feeds made starting my business easier – allowing me to share my photos and my business information without spending a lot of money on marketing. Now I’m finding it hard to keep up. The algorithms keep changing. Should I turn my photos into video? Add music? Text? One photo or 10?
My social media feeds are now a constant advertising blitz of photographers trying to sell me their software presets, marketing programs, education classes and sharing everything except, well…photos. Currated videos of online products that are “must haves” for my business and home; or lotions, potions and vitamins to help with everything from acne to weightloss. It all feels unauthentic to me. Anyone else with me?
My goal when I started this journey over 11 years ago wasn’t to become an influencer. It wasn’t to blast my photos all over the internet and try to generate as much income as possible. My goals were always simple – to offer fun, friendly and comfortable photo sessions for my clients and to create timeless images that they would treasure for years. Capturing memories of everyday moments and big milestones while providing my clients with great customer service.
I do sometimes share behind the scenes videos to give my potential customers an idea of what it is like to work with me. I try to make those videos simple – just me, my camera and my clients. My BTS shots are usually taken by my husband on his iphone when he remembers to do them but I certainly wouldn’t call them fancy or currated. Just me doing my thing.
As we head into 2026, I will continue to do what I do best. Capture your special moments with my lens. Make you laugh. Provide you with fun poses and silly moments. All the images I share are my real clients – photos that I have taken and edited personally. Moments that matter. Grad photos, senior photos and family photos that capture the real YOU. Because what you get behind the lens is the real ME.
